Philosophical Investigations

Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951) wrote two major works: the early, strict "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus" and the later, more open-ended "Philosophical Investigations," which introduced the concept of "language games." In the latter work, he famously stated, "For a large class of cases of the employment of the word 'meaning' - though not for all - this word can be explained in this way: the meaning of a word is its use in the language." Now, the Suhrkamp Library has published the first reading edition of the "Philosophical Investigations," based on the definitive, critically-genetic edition edited by Joachim Schulte in 2001.

Wittgenstein's two principal works, written at different stages of his life, reflect his evolving philosophical approach.
